Sight + Sound

Where there's a problem, there's a story.

The Nantucket Watershed Project opened at 14 Easy Street on August 26, 2016, featuring 25 photographs and five audio interview displays. The exhibit showcased the human perspective on environmental issues within Nantucket’s delicate marine waterways.

Each array contained five photographs, a written description, and over-ear headphones attached to a portable MP3 player. The audio device pairing allowed guests to move freely about the exhibit while being fully immersed in the voices of individuals depicted in the photos.

The photographs were mounted to a hard backing, suspended with monofilament, and anchored by the gravity of natural cobblestones. The stones were representative of a symbolic weight that each photo contributes to the project as a whole. Marine water quality is a pressing issue in Nantucket. Beyond this exhibit, NWP’s primary objective is to shed light on the economic, social, and cultural complexities that result from degradation of the island’s marine ecosystems.

The exhibit was produced by Nantucket Watershed Project Director, Morgan Raith. Exhibit photographs by Dan LeMaitre.
